Actions
Overview
During any situation where we need characters to take turns, we need to establish:
- the order that characters will take turns
- how much each character can do during their turn
Turn Order
When there are 2 groups of characters opposing each other in some fashion, characters in the same group act in sequence with each other.
All players perform a Perception Skill Roll, then each group calculates the average result in their group. All characters in the group with the higher average result get to act first, then all characters in the other group get to act. Characters within a group decide on the turn order between their characters.
Consider an example where we have 2 groups, each with 3 characters, that are going to enter combat.
Group 1 |
---|
Player 1 (P1) |
Player 2 (P2) |
Player 3 (P3) |
Group 2 |
---|
Player 4 (P4) |
Player 5 (P5) |
Player 6 (P6) |
- P1, P2, P3 perform Perception Skill Rolls. The sum of their rolls is 18, so the average result is 6.
- P4, P5, P6 perform Perception Skill Rolls. The sum of their rolls is 21, so the average result is 7.
- Group 2 decides that they want P6 to go first, then P4, then P5.
- Group 1 decides that they want P2 to go first, then P3, then P1.
- The overall Turn Order is:
- Group 2 (P6, P4, P5)
- Group 1 (P2, P3, P1)
Turn order within a group is flexible and the group can change their turn order each round.
A group should consider how their characters can work together for strategic advantage.
Character Turn
On each turn, a character has an Action Pool of 2 Action Points that they can spend to perform an Action.
The possible actions a character can take are defined by their skills, which also assign an Action Cost to the action.
If a character wants to perform an action that costs more than 2 Action Points, they will need to spend multiple turns performing that action.
Consider the Swimming Skill below.
Title | Movement Range | Rank | Action Cost |
---|---|---|---|
Untrained Swim | 1 area | Untrained | 6 |
Standard Swim | 1 area | Novice | 4 |
Improved Swim | 1 area | Adept | 2 |
Expert Swim | 1 area | Expert | 1 |
If a character has Novice rank in the Swimming Skill and wants to perform the Standard Swim action, they need to dedicate their next 2 turns to performing that action. The action will not have any effect until the end of their 2nd turn.
